Maitri is a Sanskrit word which can be translated as "friendship," "friendliness" or "benevolence."
It is believed that through the practice of maitri, the establishment of love, benevolence, kindness, unconditional friendship, and perfect virtue of sympathy towards oneself will manifest into the same for others, and ultimately, for the universe as a whole.
In short, one must care and know one’s self in order to care for and know others.
In choosing to dedicate time for yourself, your body, and your health, you are practicing maitri. Regular practice of this principle will allow you to go out into the world and do what you do best, with a clear mind and a body in balance.
Yoga unites the mind, body, and soul in a way that eases tension and promotes health and well being. Regular practice improves your breathing and outlook on life.
Yoga is a great way to improve your endurance for other physical activities. After a workout, yoga will help your body relax while stretching and strengthening.
Yoga not only improves your body, but also helps with mindfulness and meditation. Take a break from daily life in order to focus on yourself and get clarity.
Marian was introduced to yoga while recovering from a major stroke in 2010. She sought not only to regain balance & strength, but to calm her anxious and ever-busy mind.
The yoga that she was exposed to only offered the former. After more physical pitfalls & yearning to find that peace within, she decided to learn yoga at it's birthplace; Rishikesh, India. Here, she was determined to bring the beauty of all 8 limbs of Yoga back to the States.
In the meanwhile, considering her physical ailments and back surgery, she realized she needed to incorporate the lost art of traction into her practice and she became certified in Yoga Trapeze as well.
In her classes, Marian incorporates breathing exercises, asanas and meditation from the mat and the trapeze. She emphasizes correct alignment and mindfulness and encourages students to approach their practice with respect, gratitude and lack of judgment. Marian believes that this mindfulness will cultivate a more fearless and compassionate relationship with ourselves and others. It can also enhance our appreciation for life and all it has to offer.
She is ever so grateful to her teachers and students for inspiring her to continue to learn and share what the gurus have passed down from generation to generation.
